First, a little background
When God created man there was nothing wrong with us. God hung out with us, told us what to do, and things were good. Perfect in fact. Then Adam and Eve sinned – did something God specifically told them not to do. It ruined everything. It ushered in death.
Because we were born from sinful people, we have sin just like them. It’s an inherited trait. That trait separates us from God. Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
So, everyone of us has failed to make the grade.
Want to know what the penalty is for that?
Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death.” We think being dead is ceasing to be alive on planet Earth. That’s not really it. True death is separation from God. Unless you have been restored by God, you are currently separated from Him – dead. Sooner or later, our bodies will physically die, yet our spirit will live on – we just change addresses from P.O. Box Earth to Heaven or Hell. If our sins haven’t been paid for we go to Hell – that is true/ultimate death (being without God = ultimate despair/no hope). Yep, that sounds horrifying so let’s skip that. Thankfully, God has another option – one that can start today.
God knew we could not fix our sin problem, our being-dead problem on our own. The Old Testament prophets (people who spoke for God) told that He would send a Savior – or Messiah…Christ. The New Testament tells that Jesus is that Savior. Colossians 1:15 says, “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God” - NLT). Basically, God got into a human body to come and save us. Why?
Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Here’s where a lot of people get it wrong. They think they have to clean up their act, stop doing this bad thing or that, before they come to God. If we could have fixed ourselves, we would have! God sent His son Jesus SO THAT we could get our act cleaned up.
When The Navy Seal crashes through the compound where you’re being held prisoner you just go with Him regardless of the state you are in. Okay? Your injuries and issues will be taken care of once you’re en route.
In the Bible, Jesus says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God loves you. Do not miss that. He loves YOU and He wants YOU to live forever with Him. Jesus said it’s not going to be just an ordinary life but, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” -John 10:10. In Romans 5:1 it says, “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Everyone who wants to live forever with peace, having an abundant life, raise your hand.
