I am going to tell you a secret for how to get rich, and to start reaping the rewards right away. But first, let's take a lesson from some people who did it wrong.
Lottery Winners. A woman won the New Jersey lottery not once, but twice, raking in over $5.4 million. It didn't last long, though, as she squandered it on a gambling habit and ended up living in a trailer.
A man who won over $16 million in the Pennsylvania lottery was one million in debt within a year. "I wish it never happened," Bud said. "It was totally a nightmare." His former girlfriend successfully sued him for a share of his winnings. But that was only a slap in the face compared to what his brother did. He was arrested for hiring a hit man to kill Bud in the hopes he'd inherit his brother’s winnings. Next, Bud lost a bunch investing in family businesses. Eventually, he spent time in jail for firing a gun over the head of a bill collector. Bud ended up on food stamps.
Hard workers. When people who were dying were asked what their biggest regret in life was, this one is always near the top of the list: I wish I hadn’t worked so hard. Why? A palliative care nurse said, "They missed their children’s youth and their partner’s companionship." She added, "All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.”
Still want to be rich? You're probably thinking, "Well, yes. I wouldn't be like those people." Maybe not. Maybe it will be worse. I know a little something about that.
I figured out how to get rich, but it took me awhile. I started at the very bottom of the corporate ladder as a receptionist. I paid attention and started moving up. After 10 years, I was the boss. I was making a lot of money but figured I could make even more if I was running my own company. I jumped ship and started my own venture. I imagined doing my job with integrity, and standing up for what I believed in. And I did...until it was going to affect my bottom line. I excused my actions because, well, it's just business. I thought that I shouldn't put my Christian views out in the secular world. That's for religious settings. I compartmentalized my life and God wasn't going to fit in this part.
Little by little my business started failing. I wrote it off as a slump and we made plans to build our dream home. When we moved in something didn't feel right. I couldn't shake this feeling that something was really wrong. That's when I had the dream.
In my dream, I had died and was standing at the pearly gates. A "man" out front asked me, "Why should I let you in?"
The question shocked me. I had been active at church...a number of years ago. I thanked God for things. When stuff went wrong I prayed. I blurted out, "Well why not? I haven't done anything."
He said, "Exactly. I gave you everything and you didn't do anything."
When I woke up, I truly woke up! Losing everything on Earth is a bad thing. Having nothing when you get to heaven is the worst thing! HEAR ME ON THIS! The day is coming where you will stand before God, alone, and have to answer that question. You do not want to stand as a disappointment before God. In reality, if you are known by God (because you spend time with him everyday), he won't ask you that question at all. He'll just say, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25:23.
So, here's how to get rich: The Bible says, “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Luke 12:21
Jesus says we should, "Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be."
C.S. Lewis said, "Aim at Heaven and you'll get earth "thrown in"; aim at earth and you will get neither."
Spend your life pursuing God and you'll get everything that truly matters. The best part is you'll feel richer than any worldly wealth could bring.
Invest your time building a relationship with God. Just you and God. You and God and your family. You and God and your friends. Know who God is, how much he loves you, and you will find the greatest treasure of all. Your life will be rich beyond measure in ways that you can't even imagine. A life with no regrets.
